Hi Dave
just an update for you that i think you will appreciate;
David had told me (as you know) that he had some concerns about playing this
team again (from Bloomfield)
before the game he and I went out to lunch and I told him the the Bible says
a kind word turns away wrath. I asked him if he would just give it a try --twice
during the game. I asked him to look for genuine attributes of someone on the other
team and point them out. (hey, nice pitching last inning - - good hit)
he fought me on it initially. Then I reminded him of all the emails that are just
plain mean that I get (people either hate our show or love it) I reminded him of
my responses to some of them. For the most part -- I respond with a kind word and
without exception, I get another email back from that person either apologizing or
qualifying what they first wrote.
After the first game -- I asked David if he had done what I asked him. He said not
only did he do it two times -- he did it five times. He clearly saw the difference
in the team. I told him that while he was doing that -- a couple parents were doing
the same on the sidelines. we befriended their third base coach and talked at length
with the parents. Just friendly stuff.
The atmosphere was noticeably different. And, hopefully, David learned a valuable lesson.
God bless
Rose
